Student concession is only valid for full-time students (including international students) and the ID must state in English that they’re studying full time or else they will have to purchase a full-priced adult or child ticket (depending on their age)

Additional Information

  • Parents of very young children are encouraged to bring a pram because exploring the site’s wide open spaces can be very tiring, especially for kids. If you didn’t pack any but you need some, you may drop by the Visitor Center to rent (AUD6)
  • Most areas in Port Arthur are wheelchair-accessible. Wheelchair-riding visitors can independently explore some areas, though some areas require them to be assisted. Wheelchairs are also available for rent (complimentary) at the Visitor Center
  • For safety reasons and for the preservation of the heritage buildings, pets and the recreational use of drones are not permitted inside Port Arthur

How To Get There

  • By car: From Hobart, take the Tasman Highway (A3) across the Tasman Bridge, go past Hobart International Airport, and drive to Sorell, which is 27km southeast of Hobart. Once you’re in Sorell, turn right to the Arthur Highway (A9) at the traffic lights in the center of the town. Continue along Arthur Highway for 30km until you arrive at the township of Dunalley. Drive through town until you reach the bridge over the canal. Turn left to the bridge and continue for another 44km until you see the turn to the Port Arthur Historic Site on the left.   • By coach: Tassielink Transit has regular public coach services between Hobart and Port Arthur. You can check the official website for timetable information, fares, and bookings
